If you were hanging out on Meta.SO yesterday, you might have seen Alex Miller (no relation)'s post about a potential new Stack Exchange service for 'matchmaking' between developers and potential beta testers.

If you missed it, I'll summarize: We've got a community of talented iOS and OS X developers hanging out on Stack Overflow, and a committed community of power users and enthusiasts hanging out here on Ask Different. Doesn't it seem natural to provide a way to help people interested in testing new software and developers in need of alpha and beta testers find each other?

A program like this would be completely free and strictly opt-in for both developers and beta testers.

So: would you be interested in participating in something like this?

If you're interested in getting this program started, please see this post where I request aid in putting together an ad to promote this idea!

Update (Summer 2011):
We are looking to start rolling this project forward. If you are interested in beta testing an app, please fill out this form.

It's been reported in chat that "What carrier is your mobile device on?" is a required question, but individuals may not have an iPhone, but wish to participate with their desktops, laptops, non-cellular iPads, and iPod Touches. The current workaround is to use 'none' or 'n/a' or some such. Can this question be marked as not required? – Jason Salaz Aug 16 '11 at 17:14

The main (multi-audience) question in Meta Stack Overflow: We're ready to beta test our beta tester matchmaking program – Graham Perrin Aug 19 '11 at 9:17
When will this be happening? – daviesgeek Sep 21 '11 at 21:40

Abby, you probably should have canned the link when you updated the tags. Since this got bumped up to the top you're going to get a whole bunch of new submissions instead. Unless that was your intention and you'll keep them around for the future. In which case, carry on. – Jason Salaz Jul 31 '12 at 7:47

I would also be ready to help beta-test programs.

I own an iPhone 3GS, a MacBook (unibody, white) running Lion and an iPad (first gen) and would be ready to test on all of them.

I would definitely be interested in participating in a program like this for OS X and iOS apps.

I've beta tested before and enjoyed it.

Thanks guys; this is a cool idea!

Yes - I'd be interested in seeing this.

Currently http://testflightapp.com is the only other service I'm aware of that does this. There is plenty or room another with a SE flavor / style
